My earliest memory fishing was catching crayfish at six years old on the River Wansbeck in Northumbria, with a net on a 4ft bamboo cane. I have fished both sea and coarse ever since.

About a decade ago at a Country show, I met Trevor Coxon who was demonstrating Fly-dressing, I had recently been persuaded by a mate to buy a cheap fly rod and have a go at Fly-fishing, so I had an interest in the flies, I took one of Trevor’s leaflets and later I had a casting lesson with him – my casting improved overnight and the ‘Fly fishing bug’ bit me hard!

I fly-fish on rivers in England, Wales & Scotland for Grayling, Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Sea-trout & Salmon, but I have also fished abroad for Bonefish & Barracuda in Florida and The Bahamas.

I wanted to dress my own flies, so I joined Trevor’s classes and within a fairly short period of time I was tying reasonably good flies. We soon became good friends.

I began taking one of my young nephews on my trips and realised that I enjoyed teaching him, I chatted to Trevor who suggested that I study and take the exams. I have been a qualified instructor since 2006.
