I started coarse fishing at the age of six. I still  enjoy coarse fishing, but now my main passion is fly-fishing!

I have fished most types of trout waters,  tiny streams on Dartmoor, the Chalkstreams of the South, many of the larger reservoirs and some small intimate stillwaters.

I have fished in Alaska, catching  over 500 Pacific Salmon,  Silvers, Kings, Chums
Sockeye (red),  and Humpies (pink).
I also caught Grayling, Leopard Rainbows and Arctic Char  (aka Dolly Vardens).

Subsequently I  Salmon fished for Sea-trout in Devon and Wales,  and then Scotland for Atlantic Salmon.

I started fly-fishing about 45 years ago, and enrolled at evening classes to learn Fly-dressing.  The professional who ran these classes, befriended me and became my mentor for over thirty years. He taught me so much about fly-dressing and fly-fishing, and urged  me to study to become an instructor. Eventually I took the Salmon & Trout Association exams and became a qualified National Instructor.
I also joined  the Fly Dressers Guild and also too their exams to become qualified instructor in Fly Dressing.
I taught fly-dressing  at evening classes for eight years, and am still very involved with the Surrey branch of the Fly Dressers Guild.

I have been teaching Fly-fishing, Casting, and Fly-dressing for over 19 years.

Through the Salmon & Trout Association, I have taught young people to fly-fish for over ten years, I also work with ¬†‚ÄėCountry Learning ‚Äė a charity that helps to educate children about all aspects of the countryside. Along with the other ‚ÄėSurrey Fly Fishing Instructors, I have given talks and demonstrations to approx ‚Äėfour-hundred‚Äô youngsters, each year, for the past¬†twelve years.

The Albury Estates fisheries used ¬†to run special ‚Äėbeginners days‚Äô twice yearly, and for the past ten years I was involved with helping around 1,500 (children & adults) to learn Fly-fishing.

In the recent¬†years there has been a steadily growing ¬†demand for ‘proper¬† tuition, that is why I invited other other instructors to join me in forming Surrey Fly Fishing.
